Virtual try-on / FIELD GUIDE
Can an AI fashion image tell you how to wash the garment?
Use the approved care instructions as the writing source. A generated image can depict texture and styling, but it cannot establish fiber composition, wash temperature or whether a finish survives cleaning. Keep care copy separate from the visual impression.
Match the instruction to the exact garment
Obtain a readable current label image and the product owner’s approved care record. Match the SKU, revision and destination language. A label from a similar-looking coat or an earlier lining is not the source for this one. Generated fabric texture cannot reveal fiber content, temperature limits or whether the completed garment tolerates a cleaning method.
If a symbol is unreadable, request a better photograph or authorized text. If the readable label and product record disagree, stop the care-copy release and ask the responsible owner to resolve the conflict; do not choose the instruction that sounds easier to sell. Shopify’s generated-description guidance warns that plausible text can introduce facts from similar products.
Resolve a fictional revision conflict
Invented example only: a coat called J04 is at revision 2. An old revision-1 photo says “Hand wash cold; dry flat,” while a draft campaign says “Machine washable; tumble dry.” These are fictional strings, not care advice for any garment.
| Record | What to check | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Revision-1 label photograph | Does it belong to J04 revision 2? | Do not reuse until the owner resolves the version |
| Draft care copy | Machine washable and tumble dry have no current source | Hold those claims; do not infer them from the image |
| Current authorized instruction | Readable label plus resolved owner record | Copy the actual instruction, including restrictions |
| Localized listing | Negatives, units and named procedures | Review the translation against the same resolved instruction |
Do not simply delete “not,” “only,” or a drying restriction to shorten copy. If the owner supplies a new instruction, keep the resolved source and its version with the updated text. An unresolved field is an internal issue to close, not a public placeholder to publish as care guidance.
Use evidence for the whole instruction
The US textile care provision in 16 CFR 423.6(c) describes an evidence basis for care information. This is a US-context example of substantiation, not a complete labeling checklist for every market. It does not provide the washing instruction for your product.
Ask the responsible product and compliance owners for the applicable instruction and destination requirements. Keep fiber composition, cleaning method, drying and any restrictions tied to their own approved sources. Appearance or a generic material-care article does not settle the completed garment’s construction, finish or trim.
Check the image and native text together
Compare the released care copy with the campaign scene. A washer or hot-steam scene can imply a treatment not supported by the resolved instruction, even when a separate paragraph is correct. Revise that implication or choose a different scene rather than adding tiny contradictory text.
Provide readable native care text and verify it on the actual listing. Use care-information planning to organize known instructions and material-appearance review for image fidelity. No cleaning, labeling compliance audit or garment test was performed here.

Frequently asked questions
Can appearance establish wash temperature or fiber composition?
No. Obtain the current garment-specific authorized instruction and composition record.
What if a readable label and product record conflict?
Hold the affected care claims and obtain a resolved instruction from the responsible owner. Do not select a source by visual similarity.
Can a translation omit a care restriction for brevity?
Do not change its meaning. Review the full localized instruction against the resolved source.
