Product images / QUESTION GUIDE
How do you photograph modular furniture without implying every piece is included?
Create a configuration map before the scene: which modules form the pictured arrangement, which SKU the buyer orders and which additions are optional. A room image can show a complete arrangement while the listing sells only one section. Make that difference readable outside the generated image as well as inside the scene.
Name the selling unit before the room arrangement
Start with supplier-approved module identities and photographs, including the range, size/depth and orientation convention. If a catalog calls a unit “left arm,” record the viewpoint its definition uses. Do not resolve an ambiguous left/right code from a generated room image.
Keep compatibility separate from inclusion. A matching upholstery color or visually plausible seam does not show that sections physically connect or belong to the same compatible range. Obtain the actual configuration specification before representing an assembled system.
Map a four-unit scene to a one-unit order
Fictional arrangement only: a room image shows one arm unit L1, two middle units M2 and one ottoman O1. The selected product is a single L1. No furniture was assembled, photographed or generated for this exercise.
| Scene component | Count shown | What the selected L1 order includes |
|---|---|---|
| L1 arm unit | 1 | One L1 only |
| M2 middle unit | 2 | Not included; separate selling units |
| O1 ottoman | 1 | Not included; separate product |
| Rug and lamp | Styling props | Not included |
The furniture arrangement contains four units, not three module types. Neither a complete-set title nor four-unit quantity belongs to the L1 price unless the actual offer sells that set. If the scene is used as a permitted configuration example, explain its composition where it is introduced and provide a clear identification image of the unit sold.
Keep the configuration inspectable
Use authorized photographs and a workflow that supports the required references. Do not ask a single chair photo to prove unseen sectional backs or connectors. If the missing structure is essential, obtain it or limit the scene to what is documented.
Review unit counts, arm position, depth, connection lines and optional pieces before the room styling. Do not use the generated image as an assembly diagram. A later crop that removes the inclusion explanation needs another review; an attractive full room does not explain a single-unit order by itself.
Check the selected unit and gallery separately
Shopify’s native variant-image guidance distinguishes one assigned variant image from additional product-gallery images. Gallery images being present does not mean the entire gallery will automatically filter to the selected configuration. Verify the actual store implementation instead of assuming that behavior.
In the authorized listing test, select L1 and compare the resulting title, price, quantity and preview with the unit map. Inspect the remaining gallery for contradictory set claims. Use bundle quantity imagery for counted sets and furniture scale for proportions. No store edit or purchase-path test was run here; CartVisual does not establish physical compatibility or synchronize module orders.

Frequently asked questions
Can a scene show optional furniture modules?
Only in a permitted role with an understandable configuration explanation and an unambiguous image of what the selected order includes.
Do matching fabric and a plausible seam prove compatibility?
No. Obtain the supplier-approved configuration and connection evidence.
Will assigning one variant photo filter every gallery image automatically?
Do not assume that. Check the documented store feature and its actual selection behavior.
