Packaging studio / QUESTION GUIDE
Why should a packaging concept mark glue areas separately from artwork?
Ask the supplier to identify joining and adhesive areas on the actual template, then keep them separate from decorative artwork decisions. An AI flat concept does not determine which surfaces can be printed or finished. Use the concept to express the visual direction and the supplier drawing to control construction.
Use the supplier’s actual region definitions
Get the current template for the exact structure and identify the joining surface, overlap, visible faces and finishing restrictions. A glue flap is not automatically a fifth display panel. Ask whether background print, coating, foil or other treatments are allowed in each marked region; do not assume one rule covers every process.
PackMojo’s template guidance directs artwork into the supplied dieline and keeps important text and graphics clear of glue, cut and fold areas. That supports supplier-led placement, not a universal glue width or a prohibition on all ink on every flap.
Resolve a hidden copy conflict before printing
Fictional carton: the design used template G04. Supplier revision G05 changes a joining overlap and identifies a region hidden after assembly. The concept places a barcode and support address across that region. No template or assembled sample was tested here.
| Item | What must be established | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| G05 joining region | Exact marked boundary and assembled visibility | Use the current supplier file |
| Barcode/support copy | Whether any part is hidden or disrupted | Move into an approved visible area; recheck the final layout |
| Background color | Print permission under this process | Do not infer it from the essential-copy exclusion |
| Foil/coating/adhesive surface | Supplier’s specific finish and bonding restrictions | Keep the production treatment separate from decorative intent |
Do not shrink a barcode arbitrarily to fit the leftover space or erase structural lines to make the concept look cleaner. Resolve its approved location and required operational checks in the production workflow.
Use concept controls for discussion only
Packaging studio includes carton glue-tab concept inputs, but an entered width does not establish the actual joining exclusion, substrate compensation or adhesive performance. Use the generated/flat view to discuss panel roles, then place exact artwork on the approved external production template.
Keep artwork, cut/fold information, joining regions and finish instructions distinguishable in the handoff. A flattened image that merges them does not identify which marks should print or which surfaces bond.
Reconcile the flat file with the assembled result
Review the actual sample and final artwork with the supplier. Check whether joining hides important copy, creates a seam through it or exposes a region expected to be hidden. Keep G05 and the corresponding artwork revision together in the real record.
Reopen affected placement and treatment decisions after a structure or finish change. Use concept versus production artwork for deliverable roles and fold review for graphics crossing panels. No adhesion, scanning or printing test was performed here.

Frequently asked questions
Does every glue flap prohibit all print?
Follow the actual supplier process. Important-copy visibility and print/finish restrictions are separate decisions.
Does a glue-tab value in the concept establish the production exclusion?
No. Use the marked supplier template and its current revision.
What changes reopen the review?
Review affected regions after changes to structure, overlap, substrate, finish or the artwork placed there.
