Packaging studio / QUESTION GUIDE
How should a spouted pouch’s artwork relate to its pouring direction?
Use the real spout position and intended holding orientation to choose panel roles. A front-facing concept may look clear on a shelf but put the key message upside down or under the hand during use. Confirm the actual handling behavior before creating a use illustration or final artwork layout.
Fix the structure and viewing reference first
Get the exact pouch drawing, photographs and approved use information. Record the spout side from a named viewpoint, the actual cap and panel identities. Gualapack lists central or lateral spout positions in its offerings; that does not identify the right structure or handling for your product.
A mirrored image may move an offset spout to the opposite side while the composition still looks plausible. Treat this as a construction mismatch, not a harmless style change. Do not infer safe grip, flow or a pouring angle from an attractive render.
Map one pack across shelf and held views
Fictional structure P08 has its spout at the upper right when viewed from the approved front. An authorized handling-reference plan H08 would be used to establish which area is covered by the hand; no reference photo or actual use was tested for this example.
| View or finding | What to compare | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Standing front | P08 spout side, cap and product/variant wording | Keep construction and identity consistent |
| Generated scene mirrored to upper left | Named front viewpoint and P08 drawing | Reject or repair the changed structure |
| Hand covers a lower-front instruction in H08 | Actual approved reference and required information location | Review a permitted readable location with the responsible owner |
| Instruction clear only in a shelf render | Held-use evidence is still missing | Do not claim the use layout is approved |
Do not solve an occluded instruction by inventing a different grip. Have the product owner resolve the approved use and information placement, while the supplier confirms available panel geometry and restrictions.
Keep concepts from becoming use instructions
A general zipper or flat-pouch concept is not a spout-position specification or a handling control. Use the workbench’s actual supported options for visual direction. When the exact spouted structure is not represented, obtain an exact external mockup rather than interpreting an invented cap as an approved feature.
Keep the real spout, neck, closure and any supplied handle unchanged in image review. A use scene must be compared with actual approved evidence; apparent pouring success cannot certify leakage, pressure, safe handling or suitability for the contents.
Review the actual artwork in the relevant states
Have the responsible team inspect the actual pack standing and in the approved held-use condition. Check identity, relevant instructions and consistency of panel/cap features. Keep shelf-presentation approval distinct from handling approval and from the supplier’s physical specifications.
Use pouch safe areas for seams and printable regions, and retained information for later use. If artwork or structure changes, reconcile the actual sample and marketing view. No pouring, grip, safety or leak test was performed here.

Frequently asked questions
Does a generic pouch option specify the actual spout position?
No. Use the exact supplier structure and named viewpoint; do not infer a dedicated spout control or correct neck from a concept.
Should a hidden instruction be fixed by inventing a new grip?
No. Use approved handling evidence and have the responsible owner resolve placement or use guidance.
Does a pouring render prove safe or leak-free operation?
No. Keep physical performance and handling approval separate from image review.
