Image remix / FIELD GUIDE
Does the landing page answer the promise in your product ad?
Audit the whole promise, including what the image implies. A CTA can point to the right product while the scene suggests an unsupported size, included extra or use condition. Map those expectations to verified information on the landing page.
List explicit and implied promises
For a hypothetical travel organizer, the caption may promise tidy packing while the image shows several full bottles inside. Check whether the actual product can hold that arrangement and whether the contents are included. A correct “View product” link does not resolve those questions.
Ask a reviewer to describe what they expect after seeing the ad. Compare that response with the product owner’s evidence. Keep expectations based on atmosphere separate from statements about capacity or performance.
Build a promise-to-evidence map
| Ad element | Expected meaning | Landing evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Pictured contents | Fits or includes these items | Verified configuration |
| Comparison scene | Relative size or benefit | Approved comparison |
| Headline | Named outcome | Supported explanation |
| Use setting | Suitability for context | Actual use boundary |
If the evidence does not exist, revise the promise. Adding a small disclaimer cannot automatically repair a strongly misleading composition.
Inspect the arrival screen
Open the final destination on a phone and read its first visible product information. Then locate the evidence for each promise. If a condition is necessary to understand the offer, make it reasonably findable rather than hiding it in an unrelated page.
Improve the communication before measuring it
Repair the asset or landing explanation, preserve the version and only then compare campaign outcomes. Do not call a misleading promise an effective growth tactic. Use scale review and use boundaries for the underlying product evidence.
Three promises, three different evidence decisions
Fictional travel-case ad: four bottles stand upright inside a case. The current product record confirms that bottles are not included, but supplies no evidence that this arrangement fits. No case, ad account, landing page or phone was tested.
| Promise to review | Supplied evidence in this exercise | Action before approval |
|---|---|---|
| The pictured bottles fit upright | Not supplied | Obtain a real configuration reference or change the arrangement |
| Bottles are part of the order | Record says case only | Revise composition/nearby explanation so extras are not implied included |
| View product leads to the case | Link may be technically correct | Still review the capacity and inclusion promises separately |
The US FTC considers an ad’s context, including pictures and implied claims, and explains why fine print cannot contradict the main impression. That US guidance informs this review; it does not certify compliance in every jurisdiction. A “props not included” note does not verify unsupported capacity. Fix or remove that implication, then inspect the final asset and destination together. Only after factual approval should campaign outcomes inform the next communication test.
