Which customer questions deserve a product FAQ?
Build the FAQ from actual uncertainty, not from convenient promotional questions. Use authorized support summaries, customer interviews or observable public questions to identify what needs explaining. Treat AI suggestions as candidates that still need evidence and product verification.
Collect questions without private transcripts
Summarize the issue and product context without names, order numbers or contact details. For a hypothetical refill product, “Does this fit the older dispenser?” can affect the order. “Why is this amazing?” cannot guide a useful decision. Keep the original evidence privately with appropriate access rather than publishing a customer transcript.
Count repeated issues only when you have a defined sample. A public forum example establishes that someone asked the question; it does not prove that most buyers ask it. Record sample limits next to any frequency claim.
Define the counting unit before calling a question repeated. In a fictional sample of 20 authorized support contacts for refill R, four contacts concern dispenser version V1; a follow-up inside the same contact is counted once. Report “4 of these 20 contacts,” not “20% of all buyers,” and do not claim those four contacts represent four unique people unless that was verified. Record the time range, product/version scope and collection limits privately. Do not publish customer transcripts or infer a storewide demand rate from this worksheet.
Triage the question set
| Question type | Evidence needed | FAQ decision |
|---|---|---|
| Compatibility | Verified fit scope | Answer precisely |
| Included contents | Current sale-unit record | Clarify quantity |
| Use limit | Approved instruction | Explain boundary |
| Promotional slogan | No actual uncertainty | Leave out |
Assign an answer owner. If the correct response is unknown, ask the product owner rather than publishing a plausible model answer.
Write the shortest complete answer
Start with the decision, then include the condition that makes it true. Add a relevant diagram or actual photograph only when it helps explain the answer. Keep essential text readable outside the raster image. A generated icon is not evidence of certification or compatibility.
Keep two decisions in the work record: question priority and answer status. The V1 fit question may be urgent while its answer remains unverified. A picture of matching-looking threads does not close it. After the responsible owner confirms a scope, a fictional complete answer might be “Refill R fits verified dispenser V2; compatibility with V1 is not confirmed.” That is a teaching example, not a real compatibility statement. Attach the actual model identifiers, supporting instruction/specification, owner and review date before using a corresponding answer for a real product.
Amazon suggests deriving Q&A themes from reviews; the dedicated Q&A module described there is Premium A+ Content, so do not promise that module in every Basic layout. Use suitable native content available to your account. For Google Search, the 2026 documentation changelog states FAQ rich results stopped appearing from May 7, 2026. A useful visible FAQ should resolve buyer uncertainty; it does not create that retired feature or guarantee AI citation.
Check whether the question is resolved
Ask a reviewer unfamiliar with the product to select the appropriate option using the answer. If they still need to guess, refine the evidence or wording. Use choice paths and native text for implementation. This guide does not claim automatic FAQ publication or guaranteed search rich results.
A useful question with a missing answer
An illustrative support summary identifies a question about whether a refill fits an older dispenser. The product owner has not yet confirmed that fit. Keep the question as a priority research item, but do not publish a reassuring answer drafted from the picture. Obtain the actual compatibility scope and explain any relevant version distinction. Then test whether a reader can choose the right refill from the FAQ. The exercise separates evidence that a question exists from evidence that a proposed answer is true.

Frequently asked questions
Can ChatGPT suggestions become the FAQ immediately?
Validate the question and answer against real product evidence.
Can I call one forum example high-frequency?
No. Frequency needs a defined measured sample.
Does FAQ markup guarantee a rich result?
Google’s FAQ rich result feature stopped appearing from May 7, 2026, according to its 2026 documentation updates. Write a useful visible FAQ for buyers; adding markup does not restore that retired feature or guarantee an AI citation.
