Image remix / DECISION GUIDE

What should you do when your reference ads have conflicting layouts?

Choose one layout decision for each Image Remix candidate. The current workbench creates a separate output choice for each reference image; it does not submit the entire reference collection as one weighted blend. Settle conflicting product positions and message order in the brief before generating.

01 / WHAT SHOULD YOU DO WHEN YOUR REFERENCE ADS HAVE CONFLICTING LAYOUTS?

Name the conflict instead of calling every reference premium

Suppose a fictional M5 moisturizer campaign has three inspirations. A centers a low jar beneath a headline. B puts a tall bottle at the right under dramatic light. C makes a discount badge the largest element. They disagree about product shape, first focal point and commercial message, not just color.

Write the buyer task first: identify the current M5 jar and read one approved benefit. A can supply the layout. A muted color relationship from B might be described in the brief, but B’s bottle shape cannot replace the jar’s evidence. C’s discount has no role when the campaign has no approved offer.

02 / WHAT SHOULD YOU DO WHEN YOUR REFERENCE ADS HAVE CONFLICTING LAYOUTS?

Resolve each conflicting decision explicitly

DecisionChosen M5 directionReject if the candidate does this
Product positionCentered, with the actual jar proportionsNarrows the jar to imitate B’s bottle
First focal pointProduct, then the one approved benefitAdds two equally dominant headlines
Secondary influenceRestrained background palette described in wordsImports B’s product or incompatible spotlight
Offer roleNo promotional offer in this candidateRestores C’s discount badge or faint price fragments

NN/G explains visual hierarchy through contrast, scale and grouping. Its design guidance supports choosing the intended importance of elements before styling. It is not evidence that a particular ad will convert or that an image generator can assign numeric weights to references.

03 / WHAT SHOULD YOU DO WHEN YOUR REFERENCE ADS HAVE CONFLICTING LAYOUTS?

Select the actual reference output in the workbench

In Image Remix, upload the permitted inspiration references and the exact replacement product photographs in their respective areas. The current output list offers Reference 1, Reference 2 and so on. Selecting one sends that reference together with the supplied product photos for that request; the whole inspiration collection is not automatically blended.

Choose the reference strength for the intended task. Style versus close composition concerns different guidance roles, not an interface for independently weighting A, B and C. State a limited secondary influence in ordinary requirements, and inspect whether it contradicts the primary layout.

04 / WHAT SHOULD YOU DO WHEN YOUR REFERENCE ADS HAVE CONFLICTING LAYOUTS?

Compare two directions without changing everything

If M5 needs a genuine hierarchy comparison, plan A1 as product-first and A2 as headline-first, while holding the exact jar, approved wording, ratio and background direction steady. These are two separately requested candidates and quotes. Do not silently add a new offer or different product edition while calling the result a hierarchy test.

At the intended viewing size, ask where attention goes first and whether the jar and benefit are understandable. Then inspect product shape and lettering at a useful size. This is an editorial comparison plan, not a claim of user testing, measured preference or a conversion winner. No requests were run for this example.

05 / WHAT SHOULD YOU DO WHEN YOUR REFERENCE ADS HAVE CONFLICTING LAYOUTS?

Revise the disputed decision rather than adding another reference

If A1 produces a small jar under an oversized unapproved badge, record that exact failure. Remove the conflicting badge direction or select a layout that supports the jar. Adding a fourth inspiration without resolving the hierarchy can make the brief harder to judge.

Keep the chosen reference output, product source version, primary hierarchy and exclusions in an external brief. A reference is creative guidance, not permission to copy branding or proof of the replacement product. If a layout only works by distorting the sale item, choose another layout rather than approving a plausible compromise.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions

Does uploading three reference ads submit a three-way weighted blend?

No. The current workbench offers a separate output for each reference and sends the selected reference with the supplied product photos for that request.

Can I borrow a palette from another inspiration?

Describe its limited role in the brief and review the result. Do not let a palette instruction import another product, offer or conflicting hierarchy.

What should I change when the result has no clear focal point?

Identify the disputed scale, position, contrast or grouping decision first. Revise that decision instead of merely adding more references.
