AI models / FIELD GUIDE

Is a model from a shared AI catalog exclusive to your brand?

Saving a shared AI model reference does not make it yours alone. If your campaign needs a face that rival brands cannot use, check for a clear agreement before you choose it. A saved reference can guide the look of your images; it does not by itself give you exclusive use.

01 / IS A MODEL FROM A SHARED AI CATALOG EXCLUSIVE TO YOUR BRAND?

Do you need the same look, or a face only your brand can use?

These are two different needs. A reference image gives the team a starting look. Exclusive use means that an agreement limits use by others. Before choosing a face, write down which of these your campaign needs.

CartVisual labels the people in its official catalog as fictional AI characters. The catalog lets you choose a reference. That feature does not grant exclusive use. If you are choosing between catalog and saved images, see how Official models and Your models differ. For limits on use, read the content and publishing terms and any agreement that covers your campaign.

02 / IS A MODEL FROM A SHARED AI CATALOG EXCLUSIVE TO YOUR BRAND?

Compare two briefs for the same reference

In this invented example, a clothing brand calls its chosen reference R17. Brief A says: “Use R17 as the starting look for our seasonal clothing images. Review each result.” Brief B adds: “Rival clothing brands must not use this face in UK social ads for six months.” R17 is a made-up label, not a reserved catalog model. The six-month limit is a sample requirement, not an CartVisual offer.

Brief or claimWhat to checkWhat to do if it is missing
A: keep a recurring lookKeep the chosen reference and review each new imageReject or revise images that do not match the brief
B: limit use by rival brandsGet an agreement that says who is bound, which face and uses it covers, where it applies and when it endsPause this choice, or change the brief; do not promise exclusive use
Call the face a real brand ambassadorCheck that there is a real person, an approved role and a truthful claimDescribe a fictional character as fictional
Use a custom uploaded imageCheck permission to use the image and the terms that applyResolve those questions before use; an upload does not settle them

Brief A can proceed to image review once the reference and intended use are approved. Brief B needs evidence of the promised limits as well. If that agreement is missing, keep B open. Renaming the saved model “exclusive” does not close the gap.

Check each image against the chosen reference

A chosen reference does not guarantee a matching face, garment or product in every result. Compare each image with the reference and the goods you sell. Check the face first, then the garment shape, color and details. Reject a result if the face is close but the product is wrong.

For brief A, keep the exact R17 file in your own records. Follow the reference handoff guide to record the approved file and version. A name alone may point the next designer to the wrong image. This record helps the team reuse a choice; it does not grant rights to a face or prove that no similar face exists elsewhere.

04 / IS A MODEL FROM A SHARED AI CATALOG EXCLUSIVE TO YOUR BRAND?

Keep the public claim within the approved brief

Keep a short record of the approved brief, the reference file, the images reviewed and the public wording. For brief A, a plain description such as “our fictional campaign character” states the role without claiming a real person used the product. Use the public identity copy guide when writing that description.

If the team later asks for “our exclusive ambassador,” reopen the decision. Check both the promised limits on use and any claim about a real person. Ask the person responsible for the agreement to resolve unclear terms. This guide does not decide copyright, trademark rights or ownership.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions

Does saving or paying to use a catalog reference make it exclusive?

Those actions alone do not grant exclusive use. If you need to limit use by other brands, check the agreement that promises those limits.

Does a custom upload settle rights and ownership?

No. Check permission to use the actual image and the terms that apply. Uploading a file does not answer those questions.

Can a fictional campaign character be called a real customer or ambassador?

Do not present a fictional character as a real person who bought, used or endorsed the product. Describe its fictional campaign role clearly.
