DECISION GUIDE / Product videos
How do I prevent platform captions from duplicating burned-in product-ad subtitles?
Choose the caption delivery setup by testing the actual destination player, rather than assuming that text rendered into the picture will suppress automatic captions. Preserve a clean video and a checked caption source so a duplicate layer can be corrected without rebuilding the product footage.
Identify the two layers causing the collision
Fictional exercise: a narrated storage-box advertisement already contains burned-in subtitles. The platform also displays automatic captions across the product label. One layer retains indoor use only; the other transcription omits only. Moving the text cannot resolve that wording difference.
List what belongs to the picture, what belongs to an uploaded timed file and what the destination generated. YouTube recommends reviewing automatic captions; that guidance does not establish equivalent controls on every other platform.
Compare three actual playback states
Use the same approved narration and picture interval for each comparison. Observe the player's real caption and language selections instead of inferring them from an export filename.
| Practice setup | Inspect in player | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Clean picture plus checked track | Wording, timing and placement | Consider track delivery |
| Burned text plus displayed track | Duplicates or contradictory words | Resolve competing layers |
| Burned text, track hidden for test | Picture readability and available caption access | Confirm destination behavior |
Release a tested package, not a presumed switch
Adobe documents several caption delivery routes whose availability depends on format. Do not assume an MP4 contains a separately editable caption track just because its picture displays text.
- Keep the clean export, approved narration and checked timed caption file separate.
- Upload a review version using the intended destination and language.
- Inspect ordinary playback and available caption selections on a phone.
- Correct transcription errors and choose the supported delivery arrangement.
- Record the tested export, caption version and player state before release.
Keep an accurate caption path available
Do not solve duplication by indiscriminately deleting every caption source. Retain an accurate accessible caption path appropriate to the destination, and check whether viewers can change the displayed language or caption state.
If burned text itself is wrong, changing a player setting will not remove it from the picture. Return to the external editor and export from the clean source. CartVisual does not generate automatic captions or manage destination caption settings.
Record the decision in a manual worksheet
Caption-layer playback check — fictional practice rows
The download contains fictional practice rows. Actual evidence and release decisions are blank for you to fill in. This manual record does not inspect products, update a store or certify compliance. Keep private material out of public copies.

Frequently asked questions
Can I turn off automatic captions everywhere?
No universal control is assumed. Check the destination, account and actual playback behavior.
Will hiding a track erase burned-in subtitles?
No. Burned-in text is part of the picture and requires an external edit or clean export.
