Assets & tasks / PRACTICAL CHECK
How do you migrate creative after a brand identity change?
Map the new identity to actual stock and publication slots before replacing creative. A new store header can coexist with truthful photographs of old packaging when those are the items still supplied. Mark each placement retain, replace, explain or hold, then verify the actual result in that destination.
Separate the new identity from the product customers receive
Imagine an illustrative tea brand changing from Pine Cup to Pine House. Its store header can use the new name, but some boxes in stock still say Pine Cup. Replacing every product image with invented new packaging would misrepresent those orders. The migration must connect creative versions to actual fulfillment, not just the launch date.
Record the approved new name and master artwork separately from old stock, new stock and unchanged products. Ask the operations owner which version each order may receive. A brand change can affect store graphics without changing the physical item; it can also involve new packaging that needs its own product evidence.
Use two separate questions: “Which identity should this placement use?” and “Which physical edition can this buyer receive?” A logo launch answers the first, not the second. If fulfillment cannot identify the supplied edition, hold any claim that promises only the new package. If the product itself changes, use the separate physical-product revision plan rather than treating the change as branding alone.
Inventory identity dependencies by destination
List website headers, product imagery, A+ modules, video endings, packaging concepts, editor projects and retailer files. Identify where the mark is embedded in pixels and where it is separate text or artwork. A separate layer may be editable externally; a mark printed on a photographed box is evidence of that box, not an overlay to replace casually.
Include publication owners and exact URLs or placements in the external record. A completed generation in My assets is not the same object as a copied file in an ad account. Give each destination a decision and reviewer instead of assuming that replacing a master reference will propagate through the campaign.
Classify the change before choosing an operation. A separate site-header logo can be replaced in its own publishing system. A logo baked into a campaign raster needs an edited derivative or a replacement export. A printed old mark on stock must remain truthful evidence until the operations decision supports another representation. An approved master does not make these three changes equivalent. Use the fixed and editable element review to identify the exact layer or file that needs work.
Use a migration ledger
| Asset or stock state | Migration decision | Evidence before release |
|---|---|---|
| Website identity only | Use the approved new master | Correct name and exact artwork in the live placement |
| Old physical stock remains | Keep truthful old-package evidence where needed | Fulfillment owner confirms what buyers receive |
| New packaging is available | Create and approve new product evidence | Actual sample and current SKU mapping |
| Mixed old and new stock | Agree an accurate coexistence presentation | Clear operations decision and suitable customer context |
| Embedded legacy mark in a campaign | Edit or replace externally as appropriate | Revised asset and copy pass review together |
| Archived previous campaign | Retain or retire according to policy | Usage status prevents accidental new publication |
Set a review date for coexistence, but do not invent a deadline unsupported by inventory or retailer commitments. Mark unresolved stock states as a hold point. A visual migration is incomplete if the new image is approved while the fulfillment question remains unanswered.
Replace approved assets in the actual destination
Create needed candidates from the actual authorized product edition, preserving the old approved source in the external migration record. Generated raster artwork is not an editable identity master. For exact logos, use approved artwork in a suitable external editing workflow and inspect the final export rather than assuming a prompt or reference change repairs previous images and videos.
In Shopify, Adding images to product variants distinguishes one assigned variant preview from additional product-gallery views. For an individual existing variant on desktop, the documented route is Products, the product, its variant image icon, select the image, Done and Save. Check the selected option afterward; replacing a gallery image alone does not establish the variant preview was changed.
This Shopify route is a destination-specific action by its authorized operator, not an CartVisual remote replacement feature. Repeat verification for retailer uploads, ad creatives and copied editor files. The exact destination may have other presentation or processing rules.
Verify coexistence and retire the right versions
Fictional coexistence exercise, not an executed migration: Pine House launches its new store identity while the original tea box still ships for one option. The site header may use the new approved graphic; that option keeps an accurate old-box photograph. Another option has verified new stock and can use its own new-box evidence. If the same option can receive either edition, obtain the operations owner’s accurate customer presentation before choosing a single image.
A designer’s proposal to redraw the old printed box as the new package is held: it changes the item represented, not merely the site identity. A separate end card can be edited without making that packaging claim, but the finished video must still be checked for old or inconsistent marks in every relevant frame.
Review the actual header, option selector, gallery, video ending and destination copy. Record the placement observed and the remaining mismatch, using the source-to-output record to identify derivatives. Revisit coexistence only when the underlying stock decision changes. Do not report retailer propagation or cache removal from an updated local file.

Frequently asked questions
Should every old package image disappear on rebrand day?
Not automatically. Keep the presentation accurate for the physical stock customers may receive, and agree coexistence decisions with the operations owner.
Does updating the logo reference replace old generated assets?
No. Review existing outputs and make authorized replacements in each actual publication destination.
Can CartVisual migrate all retailer and advertising files for me?
Do not assume that capability. Use an external migration ledger, responsible publishers and destination-by-destination verification.
Does changing a gallery image update the variant preview?
Do not infer that. Shopify documents a separate assigned image for each variant. Check the actual option preview and additional gallery views after the authorized change.
