How do I keep jin, grams and pack weights consistent in Chinese product copy?
Keep jin, liang, grams and pack weights consistent by identifying the exact market unit and its definition before converting. Separate the merchant’s offer approval from unit definitions, and net contents from shipping weight.
Define what is weighed and what is sold
Write the actual unit name, market, single-pack net content and number of packs in the offer. Identify whether an observed weight includes packaging. Do not derive sale quantity from the size of an AI-generated food pile or a decorative scoop.
Specify the exact unit and market before converting. A 2009 BSMI Taichung metrology bulletin, page 4 distinguishes shijin (市斤, 500 g) from taijin (台斤, 600 g, 16 Taiwan liang). This historical example shows why the bare sound “jin” or “liang” is insufficient; it is not current labeling clearance for every market. Obtain the applicable unit definition and product record. The merchant confirms which offer is sold, not a private redefinition of a measurement unit.
Build a field-by-field unit ledger
For every visible weight, record source value, unit, denominator and approved display. A per-pack number and a bundle total need separate labels. If a unit price is shown, identify which quantity it prices rather than placing a bare currency amount beside an unlabeled weight.
Keep the unit-definition source separate from the merchant’s net-content and pack-count approval. Convert only after the exact unit and applicable factor are established, then have another reviewer check the denominator as well as the arithmetic. Correct multiplication still describes the wrong offer if a bundle total is labeled per pack, or packaging-inclusive weight is presented as net contents.
- Confirm market, sale unit and exact pack count.
- Separate net content from packaging-inclusive observations.
- Verify the applicable unit definition and merchant-approved offer.
- Compare each field’s value, unit and denominator.
- Hold artwork when weight and selected offer disagree.
Fictional exercise: bundle weight becomes per-pack weight
In this fictional exercise, the merchant’s approved record explicitly defines one sale unit as 500 grams and sells two such packs. A draft puts the combined 1000 grams beside “each pack.” The numbers are invented assumptions, not a declaration of a universal jin conversion.
The reviewer retains 500 grams per pack and labels the two-pack total separately, using the fictional record. They then compare the displayed pack count. A real merchant must replace these assumptions with approved facts. The stop condition is correct quantity basis across every visible field.
Recheck after changing the pack offer
Keep the approved ledger with the source label and final artwork. If the offer changes from one pack to a bundle, recheck every weight and price field. Static images can retain the previous denominator even when the store’s selected quantity changes. Keep the original supplier value alongside the converted display rather than replacing it. That lets a reviewer distinguish a conversion error from a later pack-count change without repeating a guessed calculation.
Stop when units, net content and price basis match the actual sale record, or remove the unresolved number. CartVisual writing does not weigh products, certify labels or synchronize quantities with a store. The check is manual and must not be presented as a measured product-weight test.
Weight field proof
| Observation | Manual check | Stop or approve |
|---|---|---|
| Sale-unit name | Confirm exact market unit and definition source | No guessed conversion |
| Single-pack content | Check net-content record | Correct per-pack basis |
| Bundle total | Multiply approved pack facts | Label total explicitly |
| Price denominator | Compare selected offer | No mixed basis |

Frequently asked questions
Can I use a remembered jin conversion?
Confirm the exact unit and market using an applicable measurement definition, then match the actual offer record. The merchant approves the offer, not a private redefinition of the unit.
Does parcel weight equal net content?
Not automatically. Identify packaging-inclusive weight separately.
Is correct arithmetic enough?
No. The unit, pack count and per-pack or bundle denominator must also match.
