Can a digital download use a physical product mockup?
A physical mockup can explain how a digital design might look, but it must not imply that the pictured object will be shipped. Identify the downloadable content and distinguish it from display props, printing services and editable software requirements.
Make the digital nature clear at the buying decision
A physical mockup can illustrate a digital design only where the destination permits that image use and the listing clearly explains the actual sale. A bound book, frame or tablet in the picture does not establish that hardware or printing is included. State the digital nature near the product title and preview, not only in a remote FAQ.
Use the actual downloadable files as the content authority. The Shopify digital-product guidance distinguishes nonphysical products and their delivery configuration; it is not approval of a particular marketplace image or proof that a download has been configured.
Compare a fictional planner preview with its package
Invented example: the sale is a ZIP containing two fixed PDF files, each with the same four blank planner pages, one A4 version and one US Letter version. It includes no editable source, printed book, binding, tablet or frame. These are fictional package facts, not a download we created or opened.
| Preview element | Actual sale relationship in this example | Required correction or explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Bound planner on a desk | Illustrates a possible printed use | No physical planner or binding is shipped |
| Page with filled appointments | An illustrative completed example, if used | Entries are not included in the blank PDFs |
| Tablet or frame | Display prop | Hardware is excluded |
| Four-page design | Should correspond to the actual PDF page set/version | Remove an invented extra page or update the actual authorized product |
| Editable-looking interface | Not included with these fixed PDFs | Do not call the files an editable template |
Useful nearby wording could identify “Digital PDF download: two files, four blank pages each; A4 and US Letter. No printed item or editable source included.” Adapt it to the real product instead of copying these invented contents.
Resolve a mismatch instead of hiding it in small print
Compare headings, page count, artwork and revision in the preview with the actual package. A mockup of a five-page completed planner cannot represent this four-page blank download as identical. Correct the preview or clearly distinguish an example completion from the included blank form.
Check an actual authorized sample in the application you promise to support. A generated app screen does not prove file compatibility, editability or printing accuracy. Keep the detailed file and license inventory in its own record; this page focuses on what the physical presentation implies.
Verify the real delivery path separately
Review the product title, thumbnail, selected variant, purchase explanation and delivery instructions together. In a Shopify implementation, confirm the nonphysical shipping setting and the chosen download app’s actual configuration; follow its documentation and test the authorized path before release. A preview image cannot perform those steps.
CartVisual can help create promotional imagery but does not fulfill this download or certify the external application. No store setting, checkout, app, file package or test order was accessed for this guide. For destination image eligibility, use the channel image-role check.

Frequently asked questions
Does a bound-book mockup mean a printed planner is included?
The listing must accurately identify the actual digital contents and exclude physical items that are only illustrative.
Can an editable-looking screen prove the PDF is editable?
No. Verify the actual files and supported application; do not infer editability from a generated preview.
Will CartVisual deliver the digital purchase?
Use and verify the actual store delivery workflow. Creating promotional imagery is a separate task.
