Product videos / QUESTION GUIDE
How do you align product footage after recording the voiceover?
Record and listen to the approved narration first, then align the product demonstration to its actual meaning and pauses. Do not force speech into an old visual timeline by cutting sentence endings. A spoken action, the visible action and the result need distinct timing that a viewer can follow.
Write the spoken explanation for one action
Use a simple progression: the buyer’s problem, what to do, and what they can see afterward. Give each sentence one main point and move dense parameters to readable screen text. For an illustrative organizer clip, explain the clutter, show the real storage action, then reveal the accessible result. Do not make the voice claim a capacity the footage cannot establish.
Separate director notes from the words actually spoken. A voice provider should receive supported input, not accidental bracketed production instructions. The approved script must be factual even when the voice sounds enthusiastic.
Map meaning to the real audio
| Audio moment | Visual job | Timing check |
|---|---|---|
| Problem | Establish the context | Viewer can identify the issue |
| Instruction | Show the relevant action | Action is visible when named |
| Result | Reveal the outcome | Allow an unhurried look |
| Limitation | State scope clearly | Do not rush or obscure it |
Listen for natural pauses before adding silence. A pause already present in the recording should not be doubled by a fixed gap in the editor.
Use reviewed clips as visual material
This guide concerns a final edit with a separately reviewed narration track. Identify the actual audio and video in the selected output; do not assume every route or model has identical audio behavior. Choose footage whose action matches the approved meaning rather than use narration to excuse a visually inaccurate action.
Lock the final audio file before setting caption times. If you change the voice, trim, silence or speed, update the timeline. A timing sheet based on the previous recording is no longer reliable, even when the text is identical.
Listen and watch the final mix
Review the combined edit at normal speed. Check pronunciation, complete sentence endings, emphasis, product visibility and readable captions. Technical loudness checks do not establish whether a voice sounds natural. If nobody has listened to the result, record that review as unfinished.
Use caption planning for silent footage and sound meaning for effects that imply product behavior. Save a final timing note with the selected audio so later edits can preserve the intended sequence.
Fictional audio A-v2 uses0–1s for context,1–3s to name the opening action,3–5s to describe what is visible and5–6s to state “accessory not included.” These are invented timing markers, not a recording or measured viewer test.
| Meaning or edit | Align with | Reject when |
|---|---|---|
| Opening instruction | Approved visible opening action | The pictured action contradicts the instruction |
| Result | Visible evidence and its factual limits | Narration adds an unsupported capacity |
| Not included | Full final spoken phrase and accurate caption | A cut removes not or leaves the condition unreadable |
| Audio revision A-v3 | New recording and actual pauses | Old cue times are reused without listening |
If a recording already contains a0.4s pause, inserting another0.4s at the same place creates0.8s in this exercise, not the originally heard pause. Listen before adjusting it. A voice or speed change requires a fresh timing review. W3C’s caption guidance supports synchronized relevant audio text; it does not validate these invented cue times or certify a finished player.

Frequently asked questions
Does this guide establish that narration is generated automatically?
No. Review the actual selected workflow and final audio; this article plans alignment for an externally finished edit.
Can I keep old timings after changing voices?
No. Re-align to the actual new recording.
Are fixed pauses enough for natural speech?
No. Listen to the meaning, natural pauses and sentence endings.
