Image remix / DECISION GUIDE
How do you update a reference ad after its offer has expired?
Treat the old offer as obsolete data, even when its badge still suits the layout. Approve the new product scope, wording, conditions and time period first. Then inspect the exported creative and destination together; neither a generation request nor a new upload schedules or retires a promotion.
Write the changed offer before changing the artwork
Consider a fictional reference O1 saying “30% off all colors,” with code OLD30 and a period that has ended. The new approved offer O2 is “10% off the blue edition,” with code BLUE10 during a newly defined period. Replacing 30 with 10 is not enough: the old “all colors” statement would still describe the wrong purchase.
Keep the exact product/variant, approved wording, code, applicable conditions, start/end time and time zone in an external offer record. Obtain those facts from the campaign owner and the actual commerce configuration. The dates, codes and percentages here are invented teaching examples, not offers available from CartVisual or a merchant.
Separate the reusable layout from every old fact
| O1 element | Possible reusable role | O2 review needed |
|---|---|---|
| Large percentage badge | A place for a concise approved message | 10%, blue edition only; no inherited all-colors promise |
| Code strip | Space for exact text | BLUE10, not faint or reflected OLD30 |
| End-date line | A place for current conditions | Correct new period and time zone |
| Old crossed-out price | No automatic factual reuse | Remove unless the exact comparison is independently approved |
| Background sign or reflection | Scene detail | No leftover price, code or obsolete condition |
If O2 needs more explanation than O1, change the hierarchy instead of hiding the conditions in unreadable text. The old design should not decide which offer facts survive.
Prepare a clean candidate and exact final wording
In Image Remix, select the intended reference output and exact product. Describe the approved message and explicitly exclude O1’s percentage, code and broad scope. A request to exclude them is not proof they disappeared. Inspect small signs, reflections, labels and background fragments in the actual result.
When exact wording is hard to verify in a generated raster image, use a quieter text area and finish the approved copy in a suitable external layout. Keep that editable copy separate from the clean product visual. Do not cover an old condition with a new headline while leaving it legible underneath.
Choose a destination-specific version
Google Merchant Center’s primary image requirements prohibit promotional text/overlays in that product-image submission scope. A current offer can still be unsuitable for a main product-feed image. Keep a clean product version instead of treating the promotional ad as universal.
Amazon’s A+ design guidance also restricts custom pricing, promotional and shipping details. Its separately described native Premium comparison commerce features do not authorize baking an offer badge into an uploaded graphic. Check the actual destination and module rather than copying the same promotional image into A+.
Review the live-offer journey and its end
Before any release, compare the exact export with the intended product/variant page and the applicable code conditions in the merchant’s own commerce process. A blue-only image pointing to an all-colors page needs a deliberate correct path and clear terms. A right-looking code in an image does not prove checkout applies it.
Name who owns the placement and who replaces O2 when its period ends. Keep an evergreen asset ready and list the actual placements. A filename or new upload does not stop an ad, replace every cached copy or update the landing page. Use the broader seasonal asset plan for that lifecycle. No checkout, offer schedule or publication was tested for this exercise.

Frequently asked questions
Can I keep the old discount if I remove the expired date?
Only use a discount whose exact value, scope and conditions are currently approved. An old reference is not evidence of a current offer.
Can a current promotion image be reused as every product-feed or A+ image?
No. Apply the actual destination rules. A correct offer can still be disallowed in a main feed image or custom A+ graphic.
Will the remix update the landing page or retire itself?
No. Publication, checkout conditions, scheduling and retirement belong to the merchant’s external campaign workflow.
