Why do translated product subtitles no longer fit the clip?

Translate the meaning, then review the subtitle as timed media. A longer sentence can exceed both the available space and the time a viewer has to read it. Do not fix every overflow by shrinking the type until the subtitle becomes unreadable.

01 / WHY DO TRANSLATED PRODUCT SUBTITLES NO LONGER FIT THE CLIP?

Compare the translated message with the action

For a fictional travel-case clip, a short English line may expand in another language while the case closes quickly. Record the action interval and the necessary product meaning. Identify which words can be simplified and which qualifiers must remain to preserve accuracy.

A translated slogan and a translated spoken-caption track are different editorial tasks. If the subtitle represents narration, keep it faithful to the final localized audio. If it is added campaign copy, keep that distinction clear.

02 / WHY DO TRANSLATED PRODUCT SUBTITLES NO LONGER FIT THE CLIP?

Make a timed-language worksheet

Text placementProduct action remains visibleReposition overlay
Audio captionMatches localized audioCorrect transcription

Use a reviewer who understands the target language. Counting characters alone does not determine readability across writing systems.

03 / WHY DO TRANSLATED PRODUCT SUBTITLES NO LONGER FIT THE CLIP?

Adapt the edit if needed

A longer static hold or a separate explanatory panel may be better than extreme compression. Make the change in an external editor and inspect the final clip. Do not reverse or retime an action in a way that changes its meaning merely to create subtitle space.

04 / WHY DO TRANSLATED PRODUCT SUBTITLES NO LONGER FIT THE CLIP?

Approve in the destination

Watch the localized export on a phone with the destination controls visible. Ask the reviewer to explain the complete message after one normal playback. Use translation layout review for still images and retiming boundaries for the edit.

05 / WHY DO TRANSLATED PRODUCT SUBTITLES NO LONGER FIT THE CLIP?

Keep the condition when the line becomes longer

Fictional approved campaign meaning: “Fits two slim bottles; bottles not included.” A target-language version is harder to read during the short closing action. Dropping the exclusion or changing two to three would alter the offer. This is a writing exercise with no actual translation, audio or timed reader test.

TimingFinal edit at normal playback in the destinationUse a suitable hold/panel rather than a tiny font

Ask a qualified language reviewer to explain the full meaning after normal playback, including the condition. Character counts alone cannot establish readable timing across languages. If the edit changes, repeat the timing check on the exact new export. Keep approved language, audio, subtitle and edit identities together; do not reverse a meaningful action merely to create reading time.
