Does your call to action match the page it opens?
A call to action is a promise about what happens next. “Choose your color,” “See the dimensions” and “Buy the bundle” require different destinations. Use wording that the linked page can actually fulfill in its current state.
Translate the CTA into a task
For an illustrative cushion campaign, “Choose your color” means the visitor can find and use the relevant color options. A link to an unrelated home page forces them to reconstruct the task. Record the intended page, product and starting state before approving the poster or caption.
Also check whether the option is available. An attractive visual should not lead to an unavailable configuration while retaining purchase wording. Keep the button label aligned with the current commerce state rather than the designer’s preferred phrase.
Write a destination contract
| CTA | Destination must provide | Failure example |
|---|---|---|
| See dimensions | Accessible measurements | Only a lifestyle photo |
| Choose a color | Correct option selector | Different product range |
| View the set | Exact included units | Single component page |
| Learn how it works | Relevant explanation | Generic store homepage |
These are illustrative tasks, not measured conversion results. The best wording depends on what the visitor can do after clicking.
| Fictional observation | What is established | Publication decision |
|---|---|---|
| Correct page opens; dimensions absent | Reachability only | Hold See dimensions until approved measurements exist or change the invitation. |
| Color link redirects to another range | A page was reached, not the promised option | Correct mapping and repeat the task. |
| Advertised color is unavailable | Identity may match while purchase eligibility fails | Resolve availability or use a truthful supported invitation. |
| Relevant explanation is publicly readable | The learning task is possible in this observation | Retain version and remaining campaign checks. |
Check the phone journey
Open the final link on a phone and follow the task without using administrator knowledge. Inspect the selected variant, any redirect and the primary action. A page that works only after a remembered login or hidden navigation is not fulfilling the public invitation clearly.
Record the entry link, relevant redirect, final page, option, CTA and task result in the expected visitor context. Do not submit payment to check an invitation. Administrator access does not establish public access. Keep unknown observations unresolved.
Approve the whole transition
Store the label and destination together in the release record. If the destination changes, review the CTA again. CartVisual can provide the visual candidate; external page setup remains your responsibility. Use preflight checks and offer updates when the campaign state changes.
Shopify’s email guidance recommends checking destinations and discount details before sending. This task record extends that idea to product campaigns; it is not a measured conversion technique. Bind label and destination to one release version so a redirect, market switch or stock change triggers review.
A failed task despite a working link
A fictional poster says “See the dimensions” and its link successfully opens the correct product page. Yet the dimensions are absent from that page. Mark the destination as reachable but the CTA task as unresolved. Either add the approved measurements in readable form or change the invitation to something the page actually offers. Repeat the phone journey after the repair. This separates technical link success from communication success and avoids calling a response with an HTTP success code a complete campaign preflight.
