Product images / PRODUCTION GUIDE

When does shallow focus hide the information a product image needs?

Shallow focus works when it directs attention without hiding the information assigned to the image. Name the detail that must be readable and the nearby context required to understand it. Then review the delivered crop at its intended size; photographic looking blur alone is not a reason to approve it.

01 / WHEN DOES SHALLOW FOCUS HIDE THE INFORMATION A PRODUCT IMAGE NEEDS?

Give every sharp region a job

A detail image should answer a specific question, such as how a dispenser's pump joins its bottle. Focus on the pump collar alone may be insufficient if the buyer also needs the front label to identify the version. Write a focus requirement containing both the focal detail and the contextual landmark. This is a review contract, not an aperture instruction or a depth map.

Divide the frame into information that must read, context that must remain recognizable and surroundings that may soften. The categories depend on the image's job. A label can be secondary in a material closeup but essential in a variant image. Resolve that difference before generation so reviewers do not argue about whether softness is attractive while overlooking an unanswered buyer question.

02 / WHEN DOES SHALLOW FOCUS HIDE THE INFORMATION A PRODUCT IMAGE NEEDS?

Choose how much softness the role can tolerate

For this invented dispenser P8, the listing card must identify variant “Cedar” and show the pump-to-bottle join. A separate material detail has a different job. Write the two roles before reviewing softness; the same crop need not pass both.

Placement roleMust remain readableResponse when it fails
P8 variant cardCurrent variant name and pump joinUse a clearer source-supported treatment, not a bigger blurry label
Collar-finish detailActual collar surface plus enough neck contextWiden the crop if the feature cannot be located
Atmosphere imageRecognizable correct P8 and supported visible featuresKeep a companion identification image; do not add specification claims
Operating instructionEvery control/contact needed for the real stepUse verified real instructions and suitable real imagery

Evaluate the file at the size it will actually occupy, then inspect any separate zoom role. Passing a large detail view does not approve a smaller card. These are review requirements, not a promised lens setting or a fixed number of pixels.

03 / WHEN DOES SHALLOW FOCUS HIDE THE INFORMATION A PRODUCT IMAGE NEEDS?

Use clear evidence before asking for focus

Upload sharp product references in Product images. In Product facts & requirements, describe the role and the details that must remain legible. Choose the appropriate output and aspect ratio, then inspect the result rather than assuming the instruction guarantees focus. CartVisual does not promise a specific aperture, calibrated lens behavior or selective focus control.

Check whether an apparently sharp region matches the source. Crisp invented texture is not recovered information. If the reference cannot resolve a seam, character or opening, a generated version cannot establish it merely by looking detailed. Obtain a better photograph when the detail matters. Increasing image resolution may support delivery, but it does not cure an unsupported or wrongly reconstructed product feature.

04 / WHEN DOES SHALLOW FOCUS HIDE THE INFORMATION A PRODUCT IMAGE NEEDS?

Review a dispenser at two viewing sizes

In the fictional card review, candidate A shows the correct pump collar but turns “Cedar” into an unreadable patch. It fails the assigned variant-card task. Candidate B keeps the name and join readable while the shelf softens. B can continue to product-detail review; this comparison does not establish that either candidate has actually been generated.

A is not automatically approved as a material image. First check that its sharp surface matches a real collar close-up. Then explicitly assign a detail role, keep enough bottle-neck context and name the companion image that supplies identity. If the sharp area is invented or the crop cannot be located on P8, reject it even after changing the role.

In the handoff, write the unresolved information: “P8 card: join reads, Cedar does not; both required in this placement.” That asks for a concrete repair. “More cinematic focus” or “4K” does not tell the next reviewer which information is missing. No optical, shopper-reading or generation test was performed here.

05 / WHEN DOES SHALLOW FOCUS HIDE THE INFORMATION A PRODUCT IMAGE NEEDS?

Hand off a focus defect that can be acted on

Google requires product representations to be accurate and truthful.

Describe the defect by region, required information and final viewing context: the collar is readable, the variant name is not, and both are needed in the selected card. Keep the crop that demonstrates the failure. The next action may be a clearer treatment, a different source photograph or an external layout using real detail evidence, rather than repeated generic requests for sharpness.

Read detail crop planning to select the region and delivery dimensions review to confirm the final format. Once approved, recheck the actual downloaded image and any later crop. A change in framing can remove the contextual landmark even when the original focus treatment remains unchanged.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions

Is background blur always a defect?

No. It can direct attention when the information needed for that particular role stays understandable. Check the actual placement and any companion view; do not approve a failed identity image merely by renaming it a detail.

Can higher resolution restore missing source detail?

No. It can produce more pixels, but it cannot establish construction absent from the evidence.

Should I request a particular aperture?

Describe the details that must read. CartVisual does not promise a calibrated aperture or optical simulation.
