Product images / DEEP-DIVE GUIDE
How do you choose a product detail crop that answers a buyer question?
Write the buyer’s unresolved question before choosing the crop. In Product images, choose Material details for one close view of a source-visible material or construction feature. Keep enough local structure to identify that feature, and pair it with a separate whole-product view.
Match the question to visible evidence
Fictional lunch-container example, not a tested image set: one buyer asks where the divider sits; another asks whether it can be removed. A photograph showing the divider seated in its groove can explain position. A tighter crop of that same closed arrangement cannot establish removal or demonstrate a procedure.
Write the question and the available source beside each other. If the answer needs an open state, hidden attachment or operating action absent from the source, request that evidence or narrow the image’s role. Use the missing-angle decision before inventing another view.
Keep a local structural anchor
For the container clip, include the attachment and the adjacent lid edge. For a zippered pocket, include the opening and surrounding panel. The whole product need not fit inside the detail image, but the feature should remain identifiable.
Too tight: a colored patch of plastic that no longer identifies the clip. Useful boundary: the clip plus the visible attachment and nearby lid. Too wide for this purpose: a full container with several inset circles and labels. Keep a separate overview in the gallery so a buyer can locate the detail on the complete item.
| Question | Useful crop | Claim not established |
|---|---|---|
| What does the surface look like? | Source-visible material with a recognizable edge | Durability, softness or certification |
| Where does the clip connect? | Clip attachment plus adjacent lid | An unseen assembly or operating sequence |
| Which control is this? | Actual label, control and local housing | A function absent from the documentation |
| Is the divider removable? | A supported separate open-state or explanatory view | Removal inferred from a decorative close-up |
A seal close-up can show visible construction. It is not a leak test.
Use the current Material details purpose
Open Product images and choose Material details in Image purpose. “Other” is an older label, not the current English button to find. Upload the correct-edition product views and a sharp source of the chosen detail.
In Product facts & requirements, identify the feature and any verified fact. In Creative direction & requirements, state the local boundary: for example, “Show the source-visible clip attachment with the adjacent lid edge; no arrows, extra text, inset panels or invented parts.” Review the selected image plan if used, check the current quote and generate that selected image separately.
The current purpose asks for one close photographic view and no person or new marketing copy. It is not an automatic instructional diagram. If the job needs exact arrows, a sequence or labels, prepare those in a suitable external editor from verified evidence instead. The image-set plan keeps that explanation separate from the detail and overview roles.
Choose a next action from the actual crop
In the fictional clip exercise, candidate A shows smooth colored plastic but no attachment: widen the local crop. Candidate B reveals the attachment but invents a second hinge not in the source: reject it and retain the real photograph or obtain a clearer source. Candidate C preserves the visible connection, yet copy beside it says “leakproof”: remove or separately substantiate that performance claim.
These branches illustrate decisions, not completed generations. Pixelcut’s smartphone photography guide discusses stable capture, lighting and varied views. Those basics help obtain an actual detail source; they do not validate an AI reconstruction.
Check the detail in the intended gallery
Ask a reviewer to identify the product feature and the supported fact at the size of the intended placement. If it becomes noise on a phone-sized card, change the source, crop or placement rather than sharpening an invented detail. Pair the chosen close-up with the whole product elsewhere.
Record the buyer question, exact source, feature boundary, exported file, observed difference and release or hold decision. Remove a second crop when it adds no information. Use the product image review for the separate whole-item accuracy check.
Sources and further reading
Recorded source-review dates are listed individually below. An undated source does not inherit the article’s publication date. Software and platform rules can change; check the current original before acting.
Frequently asked questions
Which current control creates a product detail image?
In Product images, choose Material details under Image purpose. It requests one close view of a source-visible detail.
Should a detail crop contain the entire product?
Usually keep the local feature and its structural anchor in the close-up, then show the complete product in a separate gallery image.
Can a close-up prove a mechanism or performance result?
Only show the fact supported by the actual source. A static crop does not establish an unseen operation, a leak test or durability.
What if I need arrows, exact labels or several steps?
Use verified source images and a suitable external layout workflow for that explanation. The current Material details purpose requests a single photographic close-up, not a multi-panel instructional diagram.
