Product images / FIELD GUIDE

How can return reasons improve your next product-image brief?

Review return reasons for expectation mismatches, then ask which image or explanation could have clarified the issue. Keep private customer details out of the brief. Returns can also reflect product defects, delivery problems or changing preferences, so avoid attributing every case to creative.

01 / HOW CAN RETURN REASONS IMPROVE YOUR NEXT PRODUCT-IMAGE BRIEF?

Summarize the issue, not the person

For an illustrative storage basket, a seller might observe comments about size, included lining or color. Summarize the product version and mismatch category without names, addresses or order numbers. Keep only the evidence needed for the creative decision and store the original records under appropriate access.

Use a defined review period and sample if you report counts. A few complaints can identify a useful question without supporting a percentage of all buyers. Label that distinction in the research note.

Do not manufacture a reassuring scene in place of fixing a real product or shipping defect. The correct response may sit outside marketing.

03 / HOW CAN RETURN REASONS IMPROVE YOUR NEXT PRODUCT-IMAGE BRIEF?

Create one focused improvement

Choose the highest-priority unresolved buyer question supported by the reviewed sample. Add a verified detail view or clearer native explanation. Keep the original merchandise intact; an improved story should not beautify away the very condition buyers need to understand.

04 / HOW CAN RETURN REASONS IMPROVE YOUR NEXT PRODUCT-IMAGE BRIEF?

Check whether the clarification helped

Record when the change went live and what else changed. Review later feedback with the same categories, while avoiding a causal claim from an uncontrolled before-and-after comparison. Use question-led details and included extras for the resulting asset plan.

05 / HOW CAN RETURN REASONS IMPROVE YOUR NEXT PRODUCT-IMAGE BRIEF?

A small invented case list with no customer records

Fictional exercise: a reviewer has four notes about one basket revision. Two notes concern the same size-expectation case; a third concerns shipping damage; the fourth supplies no reason. After deduplicating contacts, there are three unique cases: one size question, one damage issue and one unknown. These are invented inputs, not CartVisual return records.

Unique case categoryNext evidenceCreative brief or other owner
Size expectationActual dimensions and an accurate scale referenceRequest one verified size view
Shipping damagePackaging/carrier/product investigationOperations owns the investigation
Unknown reasonOnly information the responsible team can appropriately obtainKeep unknown; do not force into image mismatch

The size question identifies a useful brief even though this sample cannot estimate the share of all buyers affected. Do not count two contacts as two returns, or divide by all purchases without a valid matching population and interval. The public brief needs only the product revision, issue category and proposed evidence; keep names, quotes, order IDs and source records private. Photoroom’s workflow supports checking imagery against product truth; it does not substantiate a claim that this particular intervention reduces returns.
