Assets & tasks / QUESTION GUIDE

Can search engines read an AI guide that only exists inside a workbench?

A private workbench is not a substitute for a public guide. Publish the useful explanation on an accessible text page with normal links, and keep account-specific tasks and references private. Crawl access can make a page eligible for discovery; it does not guarantee indexing, recommendation or an AI citation.

Separate educational and account content

A guide should answer a reader’s question without requiring access to their balance, task history or uploaded product images. Use a public illustrative scenario and state its limitations. A task result URL is not automatically an editorial article, and a screenshot of controls cannot replace the written explanation.

For an illustrative product-label problem, the public guide can explain how to compare approved artwork with a candidate. The private support case can retain the actual customer file and task identifier. Those two records serve different audiences.

A machine-readable catalog is supplementary navigation. It is not a ranking certificate and should not contain private generation instructions.

Test anonymously

Open the guide without signing in and confirm that its explanation is available as page text. Follow its related links and verify that they lead to public articles. The workbench action can require login, but the educational answer should not disappear behind that action.

OpenAI’s publisher documentation distinguishes search discovery from training controls. Keep those policies separate instead of opening every account path in the name of AI visibility. CartVisual’s public guides can describe the workflow without exposing core prompts.

OpenAI identifies OAI-SearchBot as its search crawler and GPTBot as a training crawler, with separate settings. ChatGPT-User concerns user-triggered actions; it is not the switch for automatic search discovery. Check the actual search crawler’s access rather than treating all AI user agents as one policy. Robots rules are requests to crawlers, not a substitute for account authentication.

04 / CAN SEARCH ENGINES READ AN AI GUIDE THAT ONLY EXISTS INSIDE A WORKBENCH?

Record evidence without promising outcomes

Track page accessibility, valid links and any actual search referral or citation observation separately. A crawl request or indexing notification is not proof that a page was selected in an answer. If you test a question in an assistant, record the question, date and cited URL rather than generalizing from one response.

Use public-example boundaries and private handoff. The deliverable is a useful public explanation with a safe route back to the product, not an unlocked workbench.

Fictional label guide P explains a general review method with authorized examples. Private case T holds the customer’s task history and source files. A logged-in author can read both, but that is not evidence that an anonymous reader or search crawler can read P.

The local source has separate private-path exclusions for guides, sitemaps and robots output. That code observation is not a fresh production crawl or a promise that every URL is secure. Do not publish account data to make an assistant find the educational explanation. Improve P as a public answer and keep T in its proper private workflow.

Recorded source-review dates are listed individually below. An undated source does not inherit the article’s publication date. Software and platform rules can change; check the current original before acting.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Does allowing a crawler guarantee a citation?

No. Discovery eligibility and selection are different.

Should private tasks appear in a sitemap?

No. Keep account data and private references outside public discovery.

Must the creation workbench be public?
