Assets & tasks / PRACTICAL CHECK
How to check that a downloaded creative matches the approved preview
Open the actual downloaded file and compare it with the exact approved result version. Use product landmarks, dimensions, format and the approved video interval to identify the same asset. A matching thumbnail, filename or opening frame does not approve the full file or a later edited derivative.
Identify the approved result before downloading again
Start with the approved task/result and its source version, not whichever preview happens to be open. Compare visible product landmarks that distinguish the edition. A familiar background or similar filename can hide a wrong variant.
In a fictional H8 headphone campaign, R1 uses the old badge on the left cup and R2 uses the new badge. The review approved R2 for a specific product page. If the local file shows R1, first check which result was selected and downloaded. Downloading another copy of the same wrong selection will not fix it. Keep both files distinctly named while locating the mismatch.
Open and inspect the file that will actually be used
Check that the transfer completed and the file opens. Read its actual dimensions and format, not only its extension. Renaming a file does not convert its encoded format. A browser thumbnail may be smaller or cropped differently from the original, so compare the intended subject and result version as well as the frame shape.
For a still, inspect the product at a useful size and compare the H8 badge, cup shape, controls and required view. For video, inspect the opening presentation, full approved action interval and ending. Do not approve the middle from a matching first frame. Use playback-versus-file diagnosis if the file cannot be evaluated reliably.
Route a mismatch before replacing the creative
| Local-file observation | First check | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Old H8 badge instead of approved R2 | Selected task/result version | Retrieve the right result before requesting new generation |
| File does not decode or transfer is incomplete | Actual download/error and owner account | Investigate delivery; do not judge a partial file as the creative |
| R2 identity is right but crop differs | Original versus externally edited derivative | Identify the intended placement and reopen crop review |
| Dimensions/format differ from the intended handoff | Actual file properties and exported version | Correct the handoff/export and inspect the new file |
| File matches R2 but R2 itself has a wrong detail | Original approval against product evidence | Reopen factual approval; sameness is not correctness |
This is an invented comparison record, not a completed retrieval test. Keep the actual approved asset and downloaded candidate together so the next reviewer can repeat the comparison.
Use a frame reference without confusing source and sequence
Adobe documents exporting a still at the playhead from the Source or Program Monitor. That can help record a specific inspected frame. Note whether the frame belongs to an individual source clip or the assembled sequence; their positions are not interchangeable.
Adobe distinguishes source clips from the sequence. A still exported from the sequence may include a different crop or overlay. Record the clip/result identifier and relevant source position alongside the sequence reference. One exported frame supports that comparison only; it cannot certify every frame, sound or caption in the file.
Keep the approved original and each derivative distinct
For H8, the record can say “R2: new-badge master approved for product page; D1: narrower card crop awaiting review.” If D1 hides the badge or changes the message, retrieving R2 successfully does not approve D1. Use the source-to-output record to connect the exact original, edit and eventual placement.
After an export is corrected, open that new file and repeat the affected checks. Keep the prior version visibly retired where your team stores it. No download, frame export, media inspection or publication was performed for the fictional H8 campaign.

Frequently asked questions
Does matching the preview prove the creative is accurate?
No. It may identify the same result. Product accuracy and suitability for the placement still need their own review.
Can a matching first frame approve a downloaded video?
No. Inspect the full intended interval and the ending, then review any actual sound and finishing layers.
Should a different crop automatically trigger new generation?
First identify the original and edited derivative. A crop/export correction may be sufficient, followed by review of the changed placement and meaning.
