Which approval checks must be repeated after external editing?

Recheck the facts and viewing conditions affected by the actual edit. A crop changes visibility, recoloring changes product appearance, and new copy can change the claim. Keep the approved original beside the edited export, record the changes and approve the derivative for its intended placement instead of treating source approval as a permanent permission.

01 / WHICH APPROVAL CHECKS MUST BE REPEATED AFTER EXTERNAL EDITING?

Write an edit record before reviewing again

Ask the editor to identify what changed in ordinary terms. For an illustrative desk-lamp asset, the requested edit is a square crop, a warm background and a caption naming the adjustable head. That record is more useful than saying the image was polished. It tells the next reviewer which relationships or facts may have changed.

Keep the approved downloaded original, edit instructions and returned export as separate files. If the editor used a different source, settle that identity question with the preview-to-download comparison first. An edit record describes a known transformation; it cannot substitute for knowing which image was transformed. Include the destination, because the same crop can communicate clearly in one placement and hide an essential feature in another.

02 / WHICH APPROVAL CHECKS MUST BE REPEATED AFTER EXTERNAL EDITING?

Map the operation to its review consequence

External changeRecheckApproval cannot be inherited for
Crop or rotateComplete product, controls and orientationNew framing
Recolor or tonal adjustmentActual SKU color and material appearanceChanged product appearance
Background compositeScale, contact, reflections and included objectsNew scene relationships
Caption, badge or diagramExact wording and supporting evidenceNew factual meaning
Video trim or added soundAction order, viewing time and implicationEdited sequence

Choose the checks from the changes rather than rerunning an unrelated checklist. A warm background does not automatically mean the lamp was recolored, but inspect whether the adjustment also tinted its finish. A caption can introduce a claim while every product pixel remains unchanged. Technical similarity and semantic similarity are different approval questions.

03 / WHICH APPROVAL CHECKS MUST BE REPEATED AFTER EXTERNAL EDITING?

Review the derivative against product evidence

For the lamp, compare the finish with its authoritative product photograph, not just with the editor's before-and-after preview. Check that the crop still reveals the adjustable joint described by the caption. If a newly added glow suggests a stronger operating state, require documented product evidence or remove that implication from the final asset.

Where exact labels, dimensions or product names were added externally, compare the delivered text with approved copy. A correct instruction file does not prove the exported image contains the same characters. Inspect the exported derivative at its intended size. Avoid approving the editor's layered document while leaving the flattened file unreviewed; the publisher will normally use the latter.

For fictional lamp revision L4, approved original A1 shows the actual hinge and neutral finish. Derivative D1 crops away that hinge and adds “Rotates 180°.” The source approval establishes neither the new rotation range nor that this crop explains it. Hold that statement until the product owner supplies the relevant verified operating specification; do not infer a range from a visible joint. If that claim is unnecessary, remove it and check whether D1 still answers its placement’s intended question. A warm wall alone need not trigger a product-redesign review, but a grade that also turns the actual silver finish brass-colored does.

04 / WHICH APPROVAL CHECKS MUST BE REPEATED AFTER EXTERNAL EDITING?

Separate an external tool's operation from the decision

Shopify documents cropping, resizing and orientation changes as distinct media-editing operations.

The operation can succeed while the commercial meaning becomes wrong. Cropping away a connector may satisfy a square canvas but leave buyers unable to identify the model. Stretching to fill a banner may visibly distort the object. Decide whether the edit still answers the planned buyer question before judging how neatly it fits.

The operations in this guide take place in the chosen external editor. Record that external edit separately from the downloaded CartVisual source; a successful editing command does not approve the resulting product claim. If a requested repair changes the sale item itself, preserve the real source and choose a truthful production route rather than asking an editor to make the discrepancy disappear.

05 / WHICH APPROVAL CHECKS MUST BE REPEATED AFTER EXTERNAL EDITING?

Attach the new approval to the changed file

Name the derivative and record its approved destination, retained limitations and reviewer decision. For the lamp, approval might cover the square product-page crop while leaving a wide banner pending. The edited file should not silently replace the clean source in the archive. Another crop or a stronger caption starts a new scope decision.

If a check fails, send the editor the exact affected region or wording and the evidence it must match. A focused revision is easier to assess than a request for general improvement. Once accepted, include the derivative in the source-to-output record. Keeping the source lineage and the new approval together lets a future reviewer distinguish a permitted edit from an unreviewed variation.

Record decisions by derivative and placement: A1 remains the approved original; D1 is held for its unsupported wording and hidden hinge; a corrected square D2 may be approved only after the changed areas and final copy pass. That does not clear a later wide banner D3 that cuts off the base or a video edit whose new sound implies an unverified latch. If another unrecorded change is found, expand the review to that change before release. These L4 files and outcomes are fictional; no editor command, operation test or publication was performed.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions

Must every external edit repeat every original review?

Choose checks affected by the change and verify the actual export. Do not transfer approval for changed facts or relationships without review.

Can added copy require approval even when the picture is identical?

Yes. A new caption can introduce a technical, comparative or usage claim that the original image did not make.

Should the edited version overwrite my approved clean source?

Keep distinct source and derivative files with their intended uses. That preserves the evidence for later revisions.
